This was the third time the Sounders were facing a Mexican club. Prior to the meeting, Brian Schmetzer’s men had a record of one win and one draw against Mexican clubs.

They beat Chivas Guadalajara 3-1 back in 2010, and then earned a two-all draw against Club Tijuana in 2015.  At the Century Link Field, the hosts found the back of the net through Alvaro Fernandez following a brilliant assist from Harry Ship. But the visitors struck in the 90th minute via Alejando Diaz, who just came in as a substitute.

Meanwhile, MLS action resumes on Friday March 31 when Sounders host high-flying Atlanta United at the Century Link Field. The visitors are third in the Eastern Conference table. This promises to be an entertaining clash, with lots of goals, considering that the visitors have so far scored 11 goals in the league, an achievement that makes them the second-highest scoring side in the league so far this season.
