SYLVIA KATABAAZI
Sylvia Katabaazi was born in Kampala Uganda and moved to the United States to pursue a degree in Accounting at Mississippi University for Women (MUW). While at MUW, she worked as a tutor in Math, Algebra, and Calculus. She also played soccer and badminton while serving on the student board.
Sylvia has 14 years of finance and accounting experience; working as an accountant, Software Tester, Financial Manager, and as a Loan Administrator. She is currently pursuing a MasterÂs degree in Business Administration with a double emphasis in Finance and Accounting at City University of Seattle and will be completing in June 2013. She is also preparing to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam at the end of 2013 and hopes to work for the Big-Four Accounting firms before she can venture off as a consultant in fields like business planning, taxation, investment, and teaching.
While in Uganda, she showed special interests in taking care of elderly people at a very young age and she did so by spending holidays with her grandmother helping her with her daily activities. She continues to raise awareness about issues that elderly people experience, paying extra attention to AlzheimerÂs disease.
Sylvia decided to be part of Channel ATV after she saw what Davies Chirwa the founder was doing in the community. His ability to bring so many people together for different causes was something she really admired. Drugs for HIV and Neglected Tropical Diseases have been ignored by the big pharmaceutical according to her school research because of low profits and this has made her want to raise as much awareness about the ethics of pharmaceuticals in an effort to encourage pharmaceutical companies to continue manufacturing these drugs and sell them at cost.
