11 year old Thandi Chirwa interviews Miss Black Washington 2016 De’Vaughnn Williams

Thandi Chirwa, a eleven year old TV Host for Channel A TV was excited for the opportunity to interview Miss Black Washington 2016 for a special feature of Black History Month community leadership episode for Channel A TV.  De’Vaughnn Williams, the reigning Miss Black Washington USA 2016, uses this platform to engage with our community through volunteering and mentorship. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, she received her Licence for Massage Therapy from Cortiva Massage Therapy Institute in 2012, and she currently runs her own private practice in Federal Way, WA. For the past 2 years, De’Vaughnn has been a youth mentor with the Life Enrichment Group (Seattle, WA), a non profit organization that provides internship, college, scholarship and job opportunities to underprivileged and at-risk youth. De’Vaughnn is now head of their Girl Power Program, an weekly after school program that focuses on building skills, confidence and self esteem in young ladies grades 4-6. In her free time, she enjoys modeling, volunteering at community events and extending a helping hand at her local food banks.

De’Vaughnn, being a former foster child who overcame the odds, uses her story to inspire, and motivate our youth to be their very best. From her life experience, De’Vaughnn has also created her own non-profit organization called Operation Transcend, which aims to provide foster and at-risk youth with mental tools to assist them in combating negative thinking patterns. De’Vaughnn has chosen this for her 2016 pageant platform as well. Through the Miss Black USA Scholorship Pageant, she aims to pursue her Bachelors in Music Performance at Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts this fall.

Miss Black USA Pageant is a community driven organization and is committed to addressing health and education, two leading social issues in the African American community. The winner of Miss Black USA will use her civic platform to promote awareness of these issues during her reign. The special Black History Month observation interview was directed by celebrity Film Producer, Davies Chirwa and Produced by DC Productions for Channel A TV presentations.
