Ardie ‘Cuban’ Wallace Releases New Book Chronicling More Than Five Decades of Reggae History

The Legendary Reggae Promoter documents a remarkable journey from Hartford to the international reggae stage

By Channel A TV

HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT — After more than five decades of promoting reggae, dancehall, Caribbean music and live entertainment, legendary Jamaican music promoter Ardie “Cuban” Wallace is turning the pages of his extraordinary career into a new book.

Titled The Legendary Reggae Promoter: Ardie “Cuban” Wallace, the new publication chronicles Wallace’s journey from his early days in music promotion to his role in helping establish Connecticut—and particularly Hartford—as an important destination on the reggae and Caribbean music circuit.

The book, released in October 2026, is co-published by Dr. Davies Chirwa and Yevette Wallace, with Yevette Ann Wallace assisting with the project and helping bring together the stories and experiences behind one of New England’s most enduring reggae promotion careers.

A JOURNEY THAT BEGAN IN 1975

For Wallace, 1975 was a defining year.

That year, he entered the world of concert promotion and helped bring Bob Marley and The Wailers to Hartford’s historic Bushnell Theater. Bob Marley’s official tour archive confirms the June 22, 1975 performance at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford, Connecticut.

The performance came during an important period in Marley’s career, as reggae was beginning to gain greater recognition among American audiences.

For Wallace, however, the concert represented more than a single show. It became the beginning of a professional journey that would span more than 50 years.

In a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer, Wallace reflected on the significance of 1975, describing it as a pivotal period both in his own career and in the development of reggae music in the United States.

PROMOTING GENERATIONS OF REGGAE LEGENDS

Over the decades, Wallace built a reputation for bringing some of reggae and dancehall’s most respected performers to audiences throughout Connecticut and New England.

His promotional career has included concerts featuring internationally recognized artists such as Jimmy Cliff, Sly and Robbie, Steel Pulse, Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers, Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott and Super Cat, among many others.

His professional relationships also connected him with legendary figures from the history of Jamaican music, including Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer.

Wallace’s career therefore represents more than the story of a concert promoter. It reflects an important chapter in the development of Caribbean music in the United States—particularly during a period when reggae was still establishing its identity and audience in the American mainstream.

HARTFORD AND THE CARIBBEAN MUSIC COMMUNITY

Hartford has played a central role throughout Wallace’s story.

With its strong Jamaican and broader Caribbean community, the city became an important home for reggae music and Caribbean cultural expression in New England. Wallace’s work helped connect international artists with audiences who were eager to see their favorite performers live.

His contribution to the local music community has also been recognized through public honors. Wallace has been associated with recognition from the City of Hartford, including a Key to the City and the establishment of Ardie “Cuban” Wallace Day.

These recognitions reflect the lasting relationship between Wallace, the city of Hartford and the generations of music fans who supported his work.

MORE THAN A MEMOIR

The Legendary Reggae Promoter is positioned as more than a traditional autobiography.

The book offers readers a behind-the-scenes look at the entertainment business from the perspective of someone who spent decades working directly with artists, promoters, musicians, venues and audiences.

It explores the realities of putting major concerts together, building relationships with performers, navigating the challenges of live entertainment and helping international artists connect with American audiences.

For aspiring promoters and entertainment professionals, Wallace’s experiences offer valuable lessons about persistence, relationships, credibility, business development and the importance of understanding the culture behind the music.

For reggae historians and music enthusiasts, the book provides a personal account of an era in which reggae evolved from a relatively unfamiliar sound in much of America into an internationally recognized cultural force.

A COLLABORATIVE PUBLISHING PROJECT

The book’s publication also brings together two important perspectives through its co-publishers, Dr. Davies Chirwa and Yevette Wallace.

Dr. Chirwa, a Seattle-based global media executive, entrepreneur, publisher and founder of Channel A TV and DC Productions Media Group, has increasingly focused on documenting the stories and achievements of influential figures across Africa, the Caribbean and the global diaspora.

His involvement in Wallace’s project reflects a broader commitment to preserving cultural history through storytelling, publishing and media.

Yevette Wallace brings an important personal and collaborative perspective to the project, assisting in documenting and presenting Ardie Wallace’s experiences and legacy.

Together, the co-publishers have helped transform decades of memories, experiences and music-industry history into a published record that can be shared with future generations.

THE BEGINNING OF A LARGER STORY

According to Wallace, one book cannot contain the full story of a career that has lasted more than five decades.

He has indicated that The Legendary Reggae Promoter is intended as an introduction to a much larger publishing series, with plans to document additional stories and experiences from his extensive career.

That ambition speaks to the sheer scale of Wallace’s journey.

From the historic 1975 Bob Marley performance in Hartford to decades of concerts featuring some of the biggest names in reggae and dancehall, his career intersects with multiple generations of Jamaican music history.

PRESERVING REGGAE HISTORY FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

The release of The Legendary Reggae Promoter: Ardie “Cuban” Wallace arrives at a time when preserving the history of Caribbean music has become increasingly important.

Much of reggae’s international story is told through its legendary artists and recordings. Yet behind every major concert are promoters, producers, venue operators, musicians, broadcasters, journalists and community leaders who helped create the infrastructure that allowed the music to reach new audiences.

Wallace’s story brings one of those often-overlooked perspectives to the forefront.

His career demonstrates how an individual promoter could build bridges between Jamaica and the United States, connect artists with communities, and help create opportunities for Caribbean music to thrive outside its traditional home.

For Channel A TV, the book also represents the importance of documenting diaspora stories, cultural pioneers and entertainment professionals whose contributions helped shape the global African and Caribbean experience.

A LEGACY BEYOND THE STAGE

More than 50 years after Wallace began his journey, his legacy continues through the artists he promoted, the audiences he served, the communities he helped connect and the stories he can now pass on through publishing.

The Legendary Reggae Promoter: Ardie “Cuban” Wallace is ultimately a story about music, migration, culture, entrepreneurship, perseverance and legacy.

It is the story of a Jamaican-born promoter who made Hartford a significant part of his professional journey and helped generations of audiences experience some of the world’s most influential reggae and dancehall artists.

As Wallace begins this new chapter as an author, his message is clear: the story is far from finished.

Fifty years. Countless legends. One extraordinary journey.
