
LOS ANGELES – February 9, 2025 – BET and the NAACP have officially announced that Deon Cole, the celebrated comedian, actor, and writer, will host the 56th NAACP Image Awards. The prestigious event will air live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday, February 22, extending its broadcast by an additional 30 minutes for a 2.5-hour special on BET and CBS.

A Night of Celebration and Cultural Impact
The NAACP Image Awards is renowned for honoring outstanding achievements in film, television, music, and literature by Black artists, creators, and visionaries. This year, Deon Cole brings his signature wit and charisma to the stage, ensuring an evening filled with celebration, humor, and cultural appreciation.

Deon Cole’s Legacy in Entertainment
Deon Cole has solidified his place as one of the most versatile entertainers in Hollywood. His recent leading role in the critically acclaimed BET+ series AVERAGE JOE has received praise from The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly. Additionally, he starred in Netflix’s political thriller THE MADNESS, and was featured in Blitz Bazawule’s remake of THE COLOR PURPLE, which won 11 NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Motion Picture.
Fans also remember Cole for his beloved character Charlie Telphy on BLACK-ISH and GROWN-ISH, earning him three consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (2020-2022). His stand-up comedy continues to resonate with audiences, with his most recent Netflix special, OK, MISTER, earning an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Variety Show.
Looking ahead, Cole will lend his voice to the BET+ animated series LIL KEV, starring alongside Kevin Hart and Wanda Sykes, premiering March 6.

A Commitment to Community
Beyond entertainment, BET and the NAACP are dedicated to making a tangible impact on communities in need. This year, they have launched the Altadena Community Preservation Fund in response to the recent wildfires affecting Altadena, Pacific Palisades, and Pasadena. In partnership with Los Angeles County, JSSK, WME, Community Aid Dena, Altadena Heritage, and WalkGood LA, the initiative aims to protect homeowners from displacement and preserve the community’s cultural heritage.
